Invitations

I forgot I had taken this picture on vacation. We were in Savannah for the day just walking throughout the city. It is so beautiful and old. I love places like that where you feel the history. Anyway, for some reason that day I was very distracted by entry ways. I finally stopped and took a picture of this one- it was the moss growing on the old brick steps that attracted me. I am a visual person. Frequently the Lord speaks to me through visual things. I believe that day He was trying to talk to me but I wasn't listening for various reasons. The last 2 years have been stressful and just plain hard- recent events in my personal life have only added to it. I've just been plugging away- keeping my focus (or so I thought) for the most part on my Father- that is until recently. Have you ever fallen really hard and completely unexpected? There's that moment of shock when your mind is trying to catch up with what just happened and when the "stun" wears off if realize you've got some bruises and sore spots that are gonna take some time to heal. That's how I feel. It knocked the breath out of me a little. What I am starting to realize now is that I had lulled myself into a very complacent state believing my "doing" was a OK substitute for "being" (Psalm 46:10). I hate that. Seems maybe my focus wasn't as much on the Lord as I thought it was. I hate that even more. In thinking about Jesus and His ministry while He was here on Earth it was always about extending invitations. Invitations to rest, to lay down a burden, to begin a new life, to become a new creation, to peace, to true joy, to contentment, to intimacy, to worship. I think the invitations are a continual part of our relationship with Him. He extends them but we have to accept them. So, when He woke me this morning at 5am with an invitation to a cup of coffee and some sweet fellowship I readily accepted. My prayer is a simple one today- Father, help me to recognize your invitations and be quick to accept them. Thank you that you desire true intimacy with us. I am my Beloveds and He is mine.
